The electric resistance welding process extrudes a small amount of metal (weld flash) on both the inside and outside of the tube during the manufacturing process. The outside flash is always removed from the outside diameter with a cutting tool keeping the outside surface smooth and uniform.
Independence Tube also has the ability to remove the inside flash when needed for telescoping applications, or when a mandrel is inserted in the I.D. for punching, drilling or bending.
Our Chicago Division has the ability to flash remove or flash control from 2" square through 6" square and corresponding rectangles and rounds. Our Marseilles, Illinois Division has the ability to flash remove 5" square through 12" square and corresponding rectangles and rounds early 2010.
In certain sizes, we also have the ability to control the height of the flash mechanically during the manufacturing process.
