History

Founded in 1972, Independence Tube Corporation is a leading manufacturer of square and rectangular structural steel tubing, shipping throughout North America.

Our Customers, the focus of our activities, include many of the nation's finest steel service centers as well as manufacturers of agricultural, transportation, lighting and material handling equipment.

Independence Tube began in a 53,000 square foot plant at the present location of the Chicago Division. Now the Company's combined operations comprise a million square feet under roof and over 70 acres of property.

The Chicago Division is a 270,000 square foot facility with a large on-floor inventory. Centrally located, this plant ships tubing via truck and rail.

Independence Tube produces structural steel tubing from prime steel on the most advanced tube mill equipment. High frequency welding techniques assure the ultimate in weld integrity. Structural steel tubing's ease of fabrication, high strength, and pleasing appearance make it a "first choice" material. Potential applications are as unlimited as the designer's imagination.

The Marseilles Division lies on the banks of the Illinois River, approximately 75 miles southwest of Chicago, close to the interstate highway. Completed in 1996, this 380,000 square foot facility ships via rail, truck, or barge.

The Decatur Division is located on the banks of the Tennessee River in Decatur, Alabama. Decatur's first tube was produced in August of 2006 in its brand new 310,000 square foot facility. The Decatur Division will produce ASTM A500 2-1/2" square through 10" square (plus the corresponding rectangles) and walls from 1/8" to 5/8". In-house bandsaw cutting, including mitre, will be available.
